When you have your life anchored in Jesus Christ, you will never drown in despair. Chance or circumstance will have no effect on you. When you are faced with the swirling currents and pounding waves of life, they will have no effect on you. Jesus is the master over storms and seas. When you abide in Jesus Christ, you have nothing to fear.
When Christ is your anchor, you are held secure with His hope. Imagine the mindset of Jesus’ apostles in the midst of the storm at sea. They are fighting the waves. They fear for their lives with Jesus on board. Jesus is asleep, and the apostles are walking in fear. They wanted to know how Jesus could sleep in the midst of a terrible storm. In fear, they woke Jesus up asking Him “Don’t you care if we drown?” They were seeing but not believing! Where was their faith? Are you and I seeing but not walking in faith? Note what Jesus did.
“He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’
Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his
disciples, ‘Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?’ They
were terrified and asked each other, ‘Who is this? Even the wind
and the waves obey him!'” Mark 4:39-41
What a strange question they asked! They had the master of the sea onboard, and yet they feared what their eyes saw. They did not exercise faith. When Jesus spoke, they experienced Jesus as their safe harbor. When you and I rely upon Jesus, we have strong hope.
