Biblical View of Homosexuality

There are many discussions about homosexuality. There are those who say the Bible does not speak directly on this. This has stirred me to research this subject and present it in my blog.  I hope that you and I will come to terms concerning this subject and what the Bible says about it.

DEFINITION OF HOMOSEXUALITY

It is defined as relations between two people of the same sex. The Bible condemns such acts as sinful. See Leviticus 20:13.

BIBLICAL CONTEXT

“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”

Romans 1:26-27 (NASB)
“(26) For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, (27) and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.”

When discussing homosexuality, the biblical emphasis is on behavior, and the verdict is always that it is sinful. Homosexuality is a consequence of rejecting the created order. The prima facie case against homosexuality in the Scripture is found in God’s creative plan for human sexuality. God created mankind as male and female for the purpose of procreation within the context of marriage Genesis 1:27-28; 2:18-24. This is supported in Mark 10:6-9; Matthew 19:4-6. It is spoken of by the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 5:31. It is sinful because it violates God’s original plan for heterosexual monogamy.

Against this background of God’s creation scheme for human sexual expression, Paul makes a theological argument which is found in Romans 1:18-32. It is the consequence of rejecting God as Creator and His created order. Paul indicates in his writing that both male homosexuality and female lesbianism result from a denial of God. Paul begins by showing that through rejection of the creation Romans 1:20, and the “Creator” Romans 1:25 women “exchanged natural sexual intercourse for what is unnatural” HCSB. Men did the same thing. Paul goes on to say that God gives them over to the desires of their own sinful hearts. In the course of the context, Paul uses several negative terms to describe this condition. It is described as uncleanness, dishonor, vile passions, error, debased mind, and not fitting. It is listed in a serious list of vices that are deserving of death, not only for those who practice but also for those who approve. Romans 1:32.

God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. I realize that this is a hot subject, but I must speak the truth when it comes to the Bible. God loves the sinner, but He hates the sin. In these last an evil days, I must speak the truth, and allow it to take its course in the life of the reader. I have presented this topic out of love and not hate.

The clue in Paul is the negative terms. He writes of abusive and lustful acts rather than gay marriage. “It is better to marry than burn”- he recognises the value of relationships. The sin is sex without relationship.
